Longevity in Abkhasia

Since I was lastly in my ups and downs period, struggling to live socially and eat raw food,
i started to research more on the coo-relation of FOOD and Intelligence as well as FOOD and longevity.
Firstly I re-read again 80/10/10 by Dr. Graham, and later i came up to this post of Abhasian people of Russia. (Since my gens are Polish, i could imagine that their diet wuld fit me best).

It was really interesting to find out:
What Do Abkhasians Eat?
by Fanatic Cook: Longevity in Abkhasia

The following are quotations from "Healthy At 100":
  • The traditional Abkhasian diet is essentially lacto-vegetarian, with a rare serving of meat.
  • Abkhasians usually begin breakfast with vegetables [watercress, green onions, radishes in spring; tomatoes, cucumbers in summer and fall; pickled cucumber, tomatoes, radishes, cabbage, onion in winter]. No dressings are used.
  • They drink one or two glasses a day of a fermented beverage called 'matzoni', made from the milk of goats, cows, or sheep.
  • At all three meals, the people eat their "beloved abista", a cornmeal porridge, always freshly cooked and served warm.
  • If they get hungry between meals, Abkhasians typically eat fruit in season from their own orchard or garden. ... Cherries and apricots in the spring. Throughout the summer there are pears, plums, peaches, figs, and many kinds of berries. In the fall there are grapes and persimmons, as well as apples and pears. Fruit that is not eaten fresh is stored or dried for winter use.
  • With rare exception, vegetables are eaten raw.
  • Freshness of food is considered paramount.
  • Nuts [almonds, pecans, beechnuts, hazelnuts, chestnuts] play a major role in Abkhasian cuisine and are the primary source of fat in the Abkhasian diet. Virtually every meal contains nuts.
  • Abkhasians eat relatively little meat. ... Even then, the fat of the meat or poultry is never used. ... The Abkhasians do not care at all for fatty dishes.
  • Abkhasians also consume no sugar, little salt, and almost no butter.
  • Most Abkhasians consume less than 2000 calories a day. ... Overeating is considered both socially inappropriate and dangerous.
  • Abkhasians are universally very strong and slender people, with no excess fat on their bodies. They eat slowly and chew thoroughly.

RemiXed Student Version// RAWesome Lasagne - fast & easy

RAW Lasagne - Remixed 'Student' Version

As I mentioned before: students or Newbies into raw food - we do not want to spend ages in the kitchen preparing a meal. Today, I REMixed some popular recipes in the Internet of Raw Lasagne. First of all, you do not have to choose exactly the same ingredients and use only organic, ecological products. As I mentioned before in my post (read here!) - the preparation of a raw meal, and time you spend in shops looking for ingredients should not discourage us to eat RAW! :-)

Great, colorful and super-tasty. An epic evening dinner for TWO!
Mainly, we are going to focus on 2 different-fast-to-prepare sauces, which bring rainbow-flavors to our lasagne: #1Tomato-Pesto and #2 Avocado-Sauce, + #3 Raw Pasta.

TIME// ca. 20-30min
(hm and how long would you do a "standard-pasta-lasagne ? ;-) almost the same or longer!

EQUIPMENT NEEDED//
Hand Held Blender - is enough (picture!)
I have an old BRAUN blender. It is a good investment.
Food processor would be probably the most efficient solution.

INGREDIENTS//

#1Tomato-Pesto:
- a handful of dried tomatoes, chopped (I got organic Sun-dried, with olive oil and basil)
- a handful of cashews
- a spoon of Lemon juice
- 1 garlic clove (optional)
- salt (optional)

#2 Avocado-Sauce
- one avocado (soft!)
- a handful of fresh Basil
- 2 spoons of Lemon juice
- salt (optional)

#3 Raw Pasta

- 1 zucchini, large (thinly sliced)
- 1 large tomato (thinly sliced)
- green leaves such us Spinach, Parsley  + (Red Pepper - thinly sliced - optional)

3 easy Steps!

1. First, soak cashews in warm water (not hot! to keep enzymes!) for few minutes. Repeat the same with dried tomatoes. In the meantime, slice your zucchini, tomato, Red Pepper... (very thinly!)

2. Next, Place all Pesto ingredients in a bowl/your blender and blend till creamy.

3. Now blend all Sauce ingredients till creamy.

Time to build your lasagne!
- Take a few pieces of zucchini and place on plate.
- Next top it off with Sauce. Next Spinach.
- Again zucchini layer. Next few slices of tomatoes and top it off with Pesto. Repeat Layers!

And the dinner is served, folks :-)

INFO FOR NEWBIES & Students into RAW FOOD Recipes & Time of preparation//

INFO FOR NEWBIES & Students into RAW FOOD Recipes & Time of preparation//

Since, I am in the beginning of my FULLY Raw Food 100% Journey, like most of the newbies, I was searching for substitutes and dinners of "standard cooked diet", such us Pizzas, pastas, lasagnas, sandwiches, burgers, risotto, soups etc etc…

TIME//
Again, like the most of Newbies into RAWesome lifestyle - we do not want to spend hours & hours in the kitchen preparing a dinner (as many receipes in the internet take a lot of time). Food should be tasty, and time of preparation should not discourage us from eating raw food.

TECHNIQUE//
Most of raw food dinners-recipes requires mixers, blenders, dehydrators and all kinds of machines! Not all of the equipment is available in every part of the world (at least you ship it for $$$!), or some do not want to invest in the beginning in all of the food processors. I understand that, (as a 21-year-old-student with limited time to prepare food), therefore I will try to "Remix" :-) famous, tasty recipes into easy FAST FOOD, and provide more info on my blog. NO EXCUSES, if you want to be RAW, nothing will stop you :-)

Nevertheless, raw food is about love to food. I think, we should find time and peace in our hearts, to not treat our stomach as a rubbish, but filled with precious nutrients which provides us mental, physical and spiritual satisfaction. Time will pass. Time will always pass, no matter what you put today into your stomach. Time will pass. Let's use it intelligently.

MORE INFO SOON :-)

with love,
raw winter girl!

Day 7 - Juice/Smoothie Fast

Easter Smoothie!

While the most of the (religious-Christan) population is eating boiled, friend and painted eggs now, I decided to make a raw (simple, HEALTHIER!) version of it.

A huge smoothie, prepared only from bananas and mangoes, which should remind us a slice of an egg.
TASTES amazingly epic, and the most importantly I feel great after eating that :-)
RAW FOOD
// ohhh, I wish i could make raw chocolate eggs, like Anya from g0lubka.blogspot.com/2010/04/easter-quail.html

Day 5 - Juice/Smoothie Fasting

Since the first day of my juice fast i haven't had any cravings. I felt fine, maybe weaker (mentally).
Nevertheless, I researched a lot about juice fasting and releasing toxins from our bodies. Since i did not use any detoxing-super-foods-or-substances to help release toxins from my colon, i got little scared that they will come back to my blood stream ( as a read on some websites!)
(it could be a good idea to clean colon etc etc, but i didnt!)
Therefore, i felt i wanted to introduce 1-smoothie per day to my juice diet, to help my colon.

And I feel great! I am so grateful, that I have found a huge papaya in Føtex - Danish supermarket; + some mangoes from Pakistan in the center of CPH, and i made a fresh great smoothie! OMG that was heaven!

Day 4 - Juice Fasting

Beet Juice!

So i made my own red 0% Wine :-)
Beets, Apples, Celery, Spinach, Pears, Ginger, Carrots..
Juice fasting juuuhu!!!
Tastes amazing!
